DJ Sets and Discussion: Beyond Dancing. Electronic Music and Urban Movements in Ukraine
Kyiv is the new Berlin” – this was a common slogan especially in relation to the very lively club culture of the Ukrainian capital. But Covid is not the only big problem for Kyiv’s music and club scene. In recent months, there have been repeated unlawful searches and most recently even violence by the police on cultural institutions and musicians.
But a critical young citizenry has emerged around electronic music that not only wants to dance, but also stands up for its rights and takes up issues such as discrimination, feminism and local urban development.
We enjoyed to two live sets by Anna Khvyl and Sasha Dolgyi and a conversation with them. The moderator was UC-alumni Masha Kashyna.
The event took place in the framework of the Ukraine Calling Alumni-Kick-Off-Meeting. With kind support of the Robert Bosch Stiftung.
