Museum of Ukrainian Female Migration

Museum of Ukrainian Female Migration

Gender plays a fundamental role in migration processes, since being a Stranger due to her origin, a migrant woman is also an Other due to her gender, which results in the risk of her double exclusion. Regardless of their motives and threats, however, independent female migration is a valuable personal resource that helps free oneself from the burden of social stereotypes. Due to the financial and psychological independence, it has a positive effect on self-esteem and thus has emancipatory potential.

Clicking on interactive maps created in collaboration with Ukrainian illustrator Oksana Drachkovska, we will be able to go on a fascinating and emotional journey, learn about the history, geography and motives of Ukrainian female migration, as well as hear very personal stories of different women.
